We did it. Audrey was successfully dropped off at her first day of preschool this morning and I didn't even make that big of scene. I cried a little, but she was so excited, and so ready, that I didn't want to rain on her parade. I could have though, literally. I had enough tears stored inside that it would have felt like it was raining to her.
This is the day I have been dreading since the day Audrey was born. This is the end of an era. Never again will I have all my kids at home with me with no school schedule to worry about. Never again can we snuggle in my bed in the morning and say, "What should we do today?" regardless of what day it is. I have turned her over to someone else's care for two whole days. We miss her around her, and I am counting the minutes until I get to pick her up and hear all about her day.
This is how our morning went...
Getting out of the car.
Dave was able to come. I asked him what he was going to tell the Endo dept and he just looked at me said, "That my wife was going to have a mental breakdown and we had a family issue to deal with." That's the truth.
Our cute school girl.
Katelyn, Audrey and Tatum. Cute little friends.
Those backpacks look so big on our little girls!
Texas school girls. Love the red brick.
This picture is classic. This is totally how it was. I was running after Audrey trying to get her to hold my hand, stay with me, snuggle with me for a minute, and she wanted nothing to do with me. She was on a mission to get to her classroom. See ya, mom! Nice knowing you!
Saying goodbye. It makes me teary just thinking about it.
I was so glad Dave was able to come. Not only for the moral support, but he was able to go inside the classroom and take some pictures while I stayed in the hall and cried. I was holding Joshua, who was also crying, and for the same reason. We both wanted to go in her classroom and never leave.
Her backpack on her hook.
The teachers had shaving cream ready for the kids when they came in, and of course Audrey loved it.
Joshua, it's just you and me kid. We went grocery shopping after and I thought it would be so great only having one kid while grocery shopping but I was wrong. I realized that Audrey always kept Joshua entertained while I picked out my can of beans, milk, eggs, etc. We both missed Audrey greatly.
Tuesdays and Thursdays, I now dread you.

so sweet. i can't believe you have a child in school now. she doesn't seem like she is that old. ok and that joshua kid, what a stud. i can't believe how big he looks. enjoy your babies :)
So cute. I'm so happy that our girls are all in the same class. It makes it so much easier dropping off Katelyn knowing she has Audrey and Tatum to team up with!
Michelle, I'm so sorry! but these photos are so cute! We are so so excited to come see you guys.
She is too cute, and I can imagine her just jumping right in to school! And "Ms. Pig".... hilarious!
Just so you know, you make my day better from getting to read this. Sorry it was a hard day for you, but it made me happy. Love you all.
I completely understand your feelings about having Audrey start school. Ok, so we are soul-sisters in mommyhood. I sent you an invite yesterday to see the two slideshows I made this summer - one for Gracie's birthday and one for Blake starting kindergarten. It's tricky to see them because I couldn't get the music into the slideshow. So you have to click play on the video (It will say it's a private video but if you're signed in, just click play on the middle of the screen or the play button on the bottom again.) And pause it for a sec - then click play on the song which is on my blog post on a playlist feed. Anyway, I cried the night before his first day of school and couldn't sleep that night. He also ran full speed into school and loves every moment. It's better if we have the tears, not them! Our tears show our love and their happiness shows they are confident about that love. Thanks for this post. It made me smile.
PS - Here are the links for the slideshows for Blake and Grace:

The music makes a huge difference! :)
Just wait until Kindergarten. Ugh, seriously I only just barely was able to hold it together.
I'm sure Audrey will do great. And it is nice to have that one on one time with #2 child. I was actually able to play trains with Sam today without any interruptions. So nice.
Stop. You know how I feel about this. But, I'm dying to know what it says on Audrey's backpack. I can see she wrote her name, but what does the rest say?
I'm happy that she likes it.
Blake informed me last night exactly what the backpack says. It's clear as day. Sorry, I must be sleep-deprived.
I SO remember those feelings with K last year--the truth is, I miss him like crazy when he's gone, but he LOVES school--that helps. Now, I treasure my alone time with Jonas. Also, I now treasure my days K doesn't have school. Being a mom is tough isn't it? But so worth it!
i love this post. i can't believe how grown up audrey looks. i particularly like her stance in the picture underneath the caption "our cute school girl". i don't know what it is about it, but i find it very cute/funny. i'm sorry it was a sad day for you, but i'm sure she is THRIVING. i feel like audrey was born ready to go school. ps- how cute are her little friends? i love them!
